10 years ago I stepped off a train in Tooting for the start of what would turn out to be a pretty life changing decade.

A short thread on my time in women’s football and #10YearsofBFAWSL
My interest in women’s football began in 2005, when a certain Karen Carney scored ‘that’ goal, but it wasn’t until 07 World Cup when it tuned from interest to invested.
I couldn’t believe how little coverage there was of the women’s World Cup, and as @UoGjourno student, I decided I wanted to do something about it, so turned my focus to women’s football journalism.
I decided to start by covering our @UOGWFootball team matches as experience for my course.

After a few weeks I’d got to know the team well and they mentioned they had no one to help them with coaching training and matches.
So here I am 20/21 yrs of age, doing my best without any experience of coaching, to try and put on sessions for 40+ women twice and week and take the first team matches on a Wednesday. It was a learning experience.
My final year of Uni saw me dedicate my final project to developing a women’s football magazine. I traveled to @ChelseaFCW on a cold night to interview players about the potential of a new women’s league in England. The GK didn’t speak, more about her later! @Sio_Chamberlain 😉
Within a year of graduating the proposed league was now a a working reality and the FA were looking for a Digital Marketing exec to join then. The perfect job, perfect timing. I was in.
Over the course of the next ten years I’ve had such an incredible journey with the women’s game.

- Digital ambassadors
- #Lionesses
- Salute The Lionesses

Three of my career highlights in helping the game develop in my own small way.
I’ve been lucky enough to help clubs, broadcasters, sponsors and players in the women’s game and 10 years on, still doing that today through @wearethecp
Oh and that Chelsea GK who wouldn’t speak to me... well @Sio_Chamberlain would eventually start up a conversation some years later when she was at Bristol Academy. And that I’d say turned out pretty well for the both of us!
What does the next 10 years have in store for me and my women’s football journey? A few very exciting things to announce soon, and just maybe a little Lioness to follow in her mummy’s footsteps!

Happy Birthday @BarclaysFAWSL
