Sony is closing their legacy digital storefronts. What are some things you can do to protect your digital purchases? (for these systems and other systems in general)
PS3 - first make sure if you're a PS+ customer that your save files have been uploaded to the cloud.
PS3: start all your installed digital titles one by one to see if they require an update. Then insert your physical games to see if they require any updates as well. (also, if you have HDD room to spare, see if any of your physical games require an install you haven't done yet)
PS3: again, HDD space dependent, see if there are any titles/dlc in your purchase history you have NOT downloaded and installed yet.
PS3: again, HDD space dependent, but you could also consider downloading games for your PSP and Vita to your PS3 as well. We'll talk about what to do with those systems specifically but having the executables (for transfer) on your PS3 would be a good "just in case" option.
PS3: after you're all done with the above (and have bought anything else from the store you still want, like The Red Star) perform a backup of your PS3. Plug an external USB hard drive and look in settings to get started. This will take a long time and might fail (once or twice)
Vita: again, make sure your save files have been uploaded to the cloud if you have PS+
Vita: now, my vita content was too large to fit on my memory card. So I wanted to first backup what was on there. Then I would delete it from my vita. Then download games I did not currently have installed. Then backup those, then delete and restore/reinstall the initial content.
Vita: now, when I say backup, there are 2 options. The first is to trigger an actual backup to you computer...but this can take a while and the vita does not charge while this is happening. So for me, the battery was going to die before the entirety of my 64gb vita was backed up
Vita: the 2nd option is to hook your vita up to your computer and manually copy content instead. (Note some content is not allowed to be copied) So this is what I did little by little instead. When I was done I deleted the content from my vita.
Vita: I then spent some time downloading the games I did NOT have installed on my vita. Filled it up and copied those to my computer as well. (I made a note of the folder structure and then customized it a bit so I could easily tell what content was part of my "primary install")
Vita: do this as many times as you need to and then move your primary install content back to your vita. I then copied all the content from my computer to an SD card as another backup.
PSP: process is very similar to the vita. What I did was move/copy the digital PSP content to my computer and then saved it all to an SD card as well for another backup.
