All thoughts go to Jamal Murray and whatever recovery road he faces, and in the larger scheme of things with everything going on around us, a sports disappointment shouldn't matter all that much, but I feel a profound sense of loss this morning as a fan that's hard to verbalize.
People who love sports make an investment. Of time, of mental energy, of passion. And when you make that investment over years and you see something building toward its peak, the payoff of seeing what happens is why we're all in this. And right now, I feel cheated of that...
And as I age, I don't take opportunities for granted anymore. I was really looking forward to seeing what this Denver team could do in a tough playoffs. You could tell they believed, that they thought they had enough now. To have that all vanish in an instant is hard to process.
To have it happen to a well-liked, super-tough guy blossoming into his prime makes it even harder. Chances are he'll be fine longer-term, but who knows. I hate seeing potential set ablaze by injury, for a player or a team. It seems so patently unfair, but that's life, I guess.
Maybe this is all a longwinded way of saying "This sucks," but last night and this morning, I felt a weirdly profound sense of loss unlike other sports letdowns. Just a complete gutpunch.

Maybe we'll get some crazy news that it's not that bad, but I think we all know.
Sidebar: I've noted before that I had massive respect for Tim Connelly and Mike Malone who, facing a make-or-break season a few years ago which could have cost them their jobs, elected to spend their first-round pick on MPJ, knowing he wasn't going to help them that season.
It was one of the most admirable front-office decisions in recent memory, putting the longer-term upside for the franchise ahead of their own career safety. And they were getting paid off for that faith, in MPJ and in guys like Jamal. To have a major injury intercede is cruel.
