frankly anyone saying “Black people do what you need to do to take care of yourself” is well-intentioned, but acting as though there is much that individual Black people can do to mitigate the physical & mental harm caused by the constant thread of state violence is silly
Like unless you’ve got “take a break from working for several months” money for me, I don’t know what it means to “take care of myself” in a fucking pandemic that is already disproportionately killing Black people
I am so fucking TIRED of the onus being put on individual Black people to “find a way to heal” from the very thing that is currently traumatizing us & very literally shortening our lives. This isn’t something we just have to get through till it passes, this is constant.
This is a time when the concept of self care is rendered essentially useless without community care, this is not the kind of thing that *can* be survived alone, and it is also the kind of thing that is all the more devastating in isolation
anyway whatever I have to work both today and tonight on too few hours of very restless sleep and if one more person tries to tell me there’s a way I could be caring for myself that I’m not doing right now I will have to fight them
