I wanna touch on this since I didn't want my opinion to be taken the wrong way cuz Twitter and since I'm cis.

I don't normally read/watch yuri. I have nothing against it - I just usually watch Shonen when it comes to anime and Shonen usually follows a certain formula that often https://twitter.com/Pommy_sucks/status/1381849668460507139
doesn't leave room for many romantic relationships to take place or spend much time building upon them in general. When people hear "yuri" or "yaoi", the first thing that may come to mind is the p0rn involved, but obviously that's not all it is. Yuri means "girls' love" and it's
a genre of Japanese media that revolves around lesbian relationships. Because Japan is very conservative, simply showing or stating that someone is gay comes with very mixed responses. So when I see a couple in a show that is OBVIOUSLY gay, it's very frustrating and sad to see
that it isn't treated like something that is normal, and is instead only subtly hinted at.

Although I dislike how such topics are essentially silenced, in-turn the artists and creators in support or are part of the LGBTQ+ community have found very beautiful yet still very
obvious ways to express these sentiments without actually saying it. It's a nice little "f you" to conservatives that to me also shows the beauty of yuri/yaoi without it having to be associated with p0rn.

"Yuri on Ice" and "Izetta: The Last Witch" are two shows I watched that
had me go "Ok obviously they're in love", but it was shown through artistic expression and metaphors that basically said what needed to be said without actually saying it.

I guess this is me appreciating the art of subtlety, but please don't misinterpret it as me "preferring"
gay relationships to be "hush hush". There's nothing wrong with it nor expressing it openly and freely. But imo, seeing someone using art as a medium to express something that is still frowned upon is both tragic and beautiful. It also makes homophobes see that there is real love
involved like any other relationship, and it's not just some "kink".

I hope I explained this correctly and carefully enough and I apologize if my interpretation comes off as ignorant or shallow, especially since I'm cis and I don't often indulge in this genre/topic. I fully
support and love the LGBTQ+ community and believe that everyone should be able to love someone without fear of being judged or rejected by society. I hope art and other mediums continue to say "f you" in their own ways, and that more and more people see that it really is pure,
untainted love.
