It’s crazy how much inspiration TFATWS takes from the Mark Gruenwald run of Captain America. The basic story beats of John’s story are all maintained and mixed with modern stuff to make it even more layered

Steve Rogers retires, and like the comics, the government picks John Walker to replace him as Captain America along with his partner Battlestar. He’s picked without consulting Steve’s closest allies or considering them as successors, for his ability to follow orders

John gains supersoldier abilities from the Power Broker’s serum (like the comics) altering his already violent tendencies causing savage outbursts several times including when his parents are kidnapped by political terrorists (like Lemar is by the Flag Smashers) and are killed

John continues to escalate his violent behaviour until it leads to a showdown for the legacy of the mantle, between him and the person who it truly belongs to. In the case of the show I’m predicting this is gonna happen between John and Sam

Anyways idk why I made this thread but I just really like the way the show has included so much of this run in the story and mixed with some of the best newer stuff like Truth and the Sam Wilson Cap run
