Research has shown that non-violent protest only works in countries that can be shamed. Unfortunately in America it is actually not until violent protests like the LA riots that legislation is actually changed. https://www.gq.com/story/why-violent-protests-work
What you discover is that when non-violent protests occur, there should be acknowledgment that they are being heard. In America, the ones who don’t like the protest act as the victims. Now there is also the added misinformation and disinformation that occurs.
Martin Luther King Jr in the 1950’s and 1960’s was a promoter of non-violent protest as he was inspired by Gandhi. Gandhi and MLK were both assassinated. 50+ years have gone by and we are still in the same position, non-violently protesting the same issues.
I believe in non-violent protest. I think it is the way things should be done. But 50 years later America still has the same issues. Maybe sometimes only an uprising that breaks down walls is the only way to assure lasting change.
