It's not new that in Tamil cinema, the same house or a set or space is used differently in the same film. But, @menongautham did the same in his earlier movies with a personal touch added to it.

A kutti thread. 1/n
The most popular example of the same location/space used to create two completely different ambience is in Nayagan. Thota Tharani converted a building's outside area into a brothel, and the opposite end of the same building was used as Velu Nayakkar's house. 2/n.
This becomes even more easier to notice when we see the interiors of the house. It's understandable, given the budget being overshot and this was done rather brilliantly by the team. 3/n.
Another example is from Virumaandi. Notice the house behind here. It's Kothhala Thevar's residence and we see the terrace and architecture explicitly. The tree is constant and plays a prominent part. 4/n.
This space and the tree comes once again in the climax. It's the same place where the prison set was erected. They carefully shot the clima sequences so that we don't notice the tree. 😂 Well done, @ikamalhaasan and team. 5/n.
Now coming back to what @menongautham did in his earlier films. He always says there's a part of him in every film. It's not just him, but even his office. In the control room office in Kaakha Kaakha, notice the stairs and the building. 6/n.
In Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu, notice the similarities? His office becomes the residence of Royapuram Mani and the confrontation between him and DCP Raghavan in the opening scene. Only the paint color has changed. 7/n.
It's amazing that @menongautham's love for the space continued in Pachaikili Muthucharam where the building was masked as "Sundaram Finance" visited by Lawrence and Smitha. 8/n.
You'd think the place wouldn't have warranted a presence in Vaaranam Aayiram even though there wasn't a scene specifically shot there. But you're wrong. The location makes a fleeting apperance in Anjala song as Sakthi Auto Air Condition. 9/n.
And finally, in Neendhane En Ponvasantham, @menongautham give the space a more vibrant color and recreated it as the tuition centre where Nithya and Varun meet. The stairs is unmissable!
10/n.
It's @menongautham's own little film city that adds a flavor to the universe in which he creates his characters. These touches and elements do make it unique.

As we said earlier, his characters alone aren't a part of him and his people, even his places too.

Fin. 11/11.
