In 2007 I got pulled over at like 2 am for not signaling into the Centerville McDonald's. When the cop brought my license back he mentioned I had a warrant. I had no idea. He suggested I call the courthouse to work it out. He didn't cite me for the turn. Also he didn't murder me.
I'd mistakenly paid a ticket with an old checkbook and the account was closed so the check was returned and a judge issued a bench warrant. Warrants get issued for absurd, mundane shit. Using warrants as some kind of "we HAD to arrest them NOW" is gaslighting nonsense.
I also drove around on a suspended license for FIVE YEARS. I hadn't returned a form the DMV mailed to an old address and government mail can't be forwarded so my license was suspended and I wasn't notified because they had the wrong address and government mail can't be forwarded.
I was pulled over at least once in the FIVE YEARS my license was 100% suspended and no one ever said anything. I only found out because when I went to renew I had to pay a fine and fill out the form. The DMV employee laughed when she told me. FIVE YEARS. Also no one murdered me.
Please read and really hear and believe the replies from women of color on the top tweet. I have only ever been pulled over for reasons I already agreed with before anyone approached the car. No one has ever overtly targeted, threatened, or murdered me—and that's on being white.
There was also the time in August 2002—literally less than a year after 9/11—when I talked my way past a TSA checkpoint after I accidentally left a secure area between flights and my friend had my purse. I had neither a boarding pass nor ID. Also it was JFK Intl in New York City.
Or the time I was 16 and got pulled over going 93 in a 55—on 285 in Atlanta back in the olden times when the whole thing was 55—and I cried so the cop wrote it for 76 so I wouldn't get a point on my license or have to tell my parents. I was in my mother's car. No one murdered me.
It's weird that I have to say this but white people it is not your turn to reply to this about how you did get arrested for a warrant? Like, yes, we know that also happens but when it doesn't, it's usually on some form of privilege. Shhh. Y'all are acting complete fools.
