If you like fighting games at all you are part of the FGC. Everyone enjoys them differently. If you don’t want to compete that’s ok. Then again, as someone who enjoys competing and TOing, the overabundance of memes and trial videos does make me a bit angry. https://twitter.com/novriltataki/status/1381804678329987081
We all may not have the same goals or reasons to play, but we share our love for the game, and that’s what matters. It’s inevitable that the serious competitive side of things is going to be smaller. Sometimes it can be draining, and not fun at all.
Personally, striving to get better and meeting new people through that is how I have the most fun with these games. Not everyone else thinks that way. Just like with every other game, you play for enjoyment, and that can mean playing fighting games casually, sharing memes, etc.
If you are trying to get into fighting games, don’t ever assume that you need to be hyper competitive or you aren’t part of the FGC. Find your own fun, and if you enjoy the game in any way, you’re welcome in the FGC. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
Most people, as corny as it sounds, just don’t have it in them to compete, at least not all the time. It’s very easy to lose the fun, and get trapped in a state where you don’t feel any improvement or enjoyment at all. It takes quite the will.
The people who push through and have fun are the ones who stay and compete. They enjoy the game that way, and people who enjoy playing casually or making memes are still part of the community. They may not reach the pure competitive innards of the FGC, but they’re still a member.
If you reached this, thanks for reading and PLAY SOME DAMN FIGHTING GAMES!!!! THEY ARE GOOD!!!
P.S, everything I said above is for people who actually willingly PLAY the games, Novril was mainly referring to people that don’t even play the games at all and just watch content of them. If all you do is watch FGC youtubers and don’t play the games, this thread does not apply.
