1.Monday 12 April 21. Wake up with a phone call at 4 am . Post op hip replacement having rigors. Normally not much stressful, now scared of patient catching covid. Start imagining dreadful outcomes. This is one of the rare elective surgery done past week as patient in severe pain
Mr s calls up, in tears. His mother whom I have operated years ago needs ventilator bed.felt helpless. Called several hospitals,in vain. My colleague,Umesh Nagre promised to help to look for a bed at Loni Kalbhor hospital.
Family friend D calls, worried that his daughter,6 months pregnant admitted with covid. Needs NIV bed and local hospital worried about treatment and desperate for a bed at multispeciality hospital. Several calls and pleading for bed materialise by11 pm
Neighbor desperate for remdesivir for admitted patient at Koregaon park hospital. Fortunately my colleague Dr viegas able to help. Patient an eminent lawyer.
Daughters friends mom calls up for ventilator bed for 77yr old with CT scan score 22. Told to find ventilator bed, but had sats 96% so told to get the available O2 bed.
Senior radiologist friends mother in law now needs NIV bed after him struggling for remdesivir yesterday.
If this doesn’t make you aware of the gravity of the situation nothing will. I hope we have nearer the plateau for this wave, otherwise I shudder to think what’s in store. It will turn into a tsunami. Govt has failed to anticipate and prepare even after 8months lockdown last year
