So I flew from Kona (Big Island) to Kauai to finish out my trip.
Had to get an expedited COVID test ($570) so that we could leave the island.
The bureaucrats at the testing office didn’t get us our results in time so we had to quarantine when we got to Kauai. 1/

We get to Kauai and because we don’t have the negative tests- they make us sign a document saying we’re going to quarantine until we get the results. Fine.
Bear in mind- we took COVID tests before leaving the mainland, had our temperatures taken daily at the hotel in Kona. 2/

So we go to the car rental place so we can drive to the hotel to quarantine until we get our test results. The car rental place won’t rent us a car.
Try to Uber. No Uber drivers. No taxis either. So we wait at the airport for 30 minutes and finally get an Uber. 3/

I ask the Uber guy why there aren’t any drivers and he says it’s because the government pays everyone to stay home anyway and with them shutting down the travel there aren’t many fares so why bother. Fair enough. 4/

So we get to the hotel and they have security escort us to our room like a couple of convicts. Remember- we had negative tests 5 days ago and have been in the state of Hawaii at a resort the whole time. They won’t touch our bags. Won’t give us room keys so we can’t leave room. 5/

We call for room service. No food service available. No kitchen. No restaurant. No booze or bar. No Uber eats. 1 restaurant in area that delivers and they close at 4. It’s now 4:30.
I call the manager of the hotel and ask if my best friend has put them up to this. 6/

He assures me that none of this is a joke and they take this very seriously. But they will have a bellboy pick up food in town if we pay him $40. Fine.
Meanwhile we’re 28 hours into our “24 hour” Covid test turnaround time. Don’t know how we’re supposed to get back to Denver. 7/

So the moral of the story:
Hawaii is exactly how I would expect every Democrat run state to operate if they had the “good fortune” of being an island in the middle of the Pacific. They’ve completely obliterated the tourism industry, paid all of the workers to stay home, 8/

scared the ever-living shit out of everyone, created an absolute dependence on government for, and had effectively zero Covid since the start of the pandemic. It’s the perfect example of what Democrats wish they could do everywhere else. And it sucks. Big time. But it’s pretty.
