These farmers aren’t just fighting for their lives as they subject their bodies to the tear gas and water cannons of a repressive government. They’re fighting for the human rights of farmers everywhere. In the words of the motion just passed by Vancouver City Council 2/x
“around the world local farmers are indispensable to the social fabric of any country and must be supported and protected.” 3/x
@City_Abbotsford has the third highest proportion of visible minorities among Census Metropolitan Areas in Canada. 19% of its population speaks Punjabi as their mother tongue. 4/x
How can @City_Abbotsford possibly fall silent when so many of these farmers’ family members live in this city? It’s profoundly wrong.
