So you found out you're a racist, what now? https://twitter.com/TheAuthorGuy/status/1381792977555660804
Well, you very well made have made it this far thinking you weren't a racist, and the good news is, you don't have to be. You might have been born and raised in a culture of racism, or may have just formed opinions out of fear of "the other" but you are allowed to change.
But the whole point is you don't want anything to change? I get it. Things might be pretty good for you, or if not good, and least familiar, and even if they're shitty, their YOUR shitty, but all you have to change, is your mind.
Is it going to be painful, well of course. You've got some shame and self-awareness to deal with, and that is not going to be easy, but that's part of having character, which is something you'd like to think you have, right?
So take a look at it,look at some of your behavior and your attitudes, and change the ones that are wrong. It's not about being politically correct, or woke, it's basic right and wrong. It's basic Golden Rule stuff. Everything grows from treating everyone with kindness & respect.
And you were going to do that anyway, weren't you? In your heart, you know that's something you think was worthwhile. And you don't have to throw down with all your friends. The power of testimony is short, simple, "You know, Jim, I think my shit was racist and it was wrong."
Take your time. You don't have to change anyone else's mind. That's their responsibility. You can be just as passively non-racist as you were passively racist. You can be just as secretly non-racist as you were secretly racist. You can be as proudly non-racist as you were racist.
Who am I to tell you what to do? Nah, I'm telling you what you CAN do. I'm a white guy who grew up in a suburb in Ohio. My father was a highway patrolman and my mother sold appliances. She was from the deep South. I've done some thinking myself. I can always do better.
