I'm always torn when I read or watch leftwing writing or content. On one hand I really get into it and enjoy it and on the other I know that's primarily why it exists and that probably nothing will ever come of it and no real person will ever care. Double edged sword really.
But the lefties get so deep into it that every issue is construed through that lens. So whenever a thing happens that everyone is talking about, the lefties come at those things from the most obscure and unrelatable angles and a sadistic part of me has learned to enjoy it.
But they do it in this kinda sneery way which renders the obscure take and jargon additionally off-putting. Like musos smug that they got into a band before it was cool except the band doesn't exist and nobody gives a fuck.
One of the downsides of being obsessed with history, systems and material conditions is that you forget how normal people come to these questions in real life. People become these chess pieces. Their experiences reduced to transactions.
I would love to just airdrop academics into schemes and study what happens. Give them tasks like 'walk over to that building site and say your sarcy tweet about the Queen'.
I think there might be more to learn about the left by forcing it to actually spend time with the people its always trying to save. In any event it would be some laugh.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can't really build a big movement if almost everyone in existence is on some level either morally, politically or ideologically unacceptable to you 😀
I should add that I very much respect scholarship and advocate not dumbing things down or pulling punches, but I also feel we lack any real emotional intelligence and that the political value of such a trait is greatly under appreciated or studied.
I must also add that grass roots organisers are the fucking business and that I wish they trusted their own instincts more and were more confident in their intuitions. Sometimes we wait too long for the ideological green light from above x
Anyway late night thread I will regret in the morning. Night x
