People don’t realize how black people accumulate trauma, so I’ll explain in the best way that I can:
It’s becoming desensitized to racism, police brutality, and harassment. It’s being surrounded by something for so long that you forget it’s there. It’s becoming so guarded—

that it’s hard to break down walls to trust ANYONE that’s not black. And no, that’s not a racist statement—it’s the truth. Not to mention the defense mechanisms that come along with it—our fight or flight just becomes fight at times. The exhaustion is never ending.
It’s turning on the TV to see that yet another black person has gotten killed and not batting an eye because it’s our reality. Then suddenly, it hits all at once. In the chest, the stomach, the throat, the head—all fucking over. You just break. Over and over again.
So nah, we’re not okay.
We haven’t been and we won’t be until this country understands and KNOWS justice. Until then, we hurt and we fucking deserve to hurt.
