Here’s the thing about “I meant to taser him.“

Every day in this country, people are held criminally and civilly liable for causing others’ deaths without intent. Even when our actions are accidental or due to negligence, we are still culpable for what we do.
But police use the “I meant to use my taser” line as an attempt to dodge accountability — which they do with regularity anyway — when in fact it should be 100% more damning because they’re legally empowered to carry & use lethal and “less lethal“ weapons *responsibly* and failed.
And the more media repeat the “she didn’t mean to“ and “it was an accident, she was shocked“ copaganda, the more the poisonous idea spreads that someone who should NEVER get away with that “mistake” should be allowed to because she feels bad afterward.
But she is supposed to feel bad. She ended a human life. She should be despondent. She should be devastated. She should be contemplating whether *she* can continue to live. She should be experiencing the most existential crisis any human being can ever have.

She earned it.
What she has not earned, and should not be offered in any way, is the sympathy of anyone.

She killed a man over a bogus traffic stop and a fine for smoking weed.

She shouldn’t ever experience human sympathy again in this life.
