Oop made a thread bc I have a lot of words about this lol. Most of what I mention was picked up due to being a freelance illustrator and not wanting to become a horror story Ive heard so many times before (and almost becoming one) but I find it helps in other creative aspects too https://twitter.com/unicodepepper/status/1381693892127559682">https://twitter.com/unicodepe...
*Be nice to yourself!!! This means try not to be negative of your own work, worrying if you& #39;re squandering time when resting, and actually taking time to do things you need to do for your own well being, especially eating and not skipping meals. (1/10)
*Take hourly breaks away from WIP. Stretch, exercise, or play a game, something to keep your eyes and mind from your WIP for a moment. (2/10)
*After a certain time of the day or amount of time spent on it, you gotta clock out. Do not go back to your WIP until the next day. For me the daily cutoff time is dinner, and after I cook and eat I spend the rest of the day doing what I want that isn& #39;t related to the WIP. (3/10)
*Take at minimum 2 solid days break. Watch tv, read books, play games, spend time with family/friends, something that isn& #39;t your WIP

*Have a different creative hobby thats 100% for you, that you dont monetize or post often on socials. For me this is bookbinding and sewing (4/10)
The temptation is to focus your mind and energy 100% on your WIP at all times of the day because it gives you Good Brain Juice that fuels motivation, so its a little hard to make these into habits bc they take you away from your WIP. (5/10)
But time and time again I find that going 100% into a project every day will eventually tire me out so hard that working on it will feel like pulling teeth, when I don& #39;t want my relationship to my work to be like that. (6/10)
My advice won& #39;t work for everyone, especially since my general creative disposition is to focus and whittle away at something so I don& #39;t hyperfocus on uhhh *vaugely gestures at the current state of the world*, but as of far I haven& #39;t burned out in a while! (7/10)
I& #39;ve injured myself drawing too many illustrations in too little time and had to stop drawing for almost a year because my wrist and thumb felt so bad, and I& #39;ve also had burnout for at most a year, after years of bad habits/thinking that added up real quick. (8/10)
Both of these are Awful to go through, especially when you Want to make something. And while I& #39;m speaking mostly through an illustrator& #39;s lens, a lot of this rang true when it comes to other creative endeavours like game dev, writing, coding, etc. (9/10)
So trust me when I say I take my breaks and exercises very seriously lol. And to anyone who decided to read this thread, I hope you take breaks seriously too, especially if its within your own means. Please take care of yourselves! (10/10)
