It's quite telling that certain segments of the fandom have all this sympathy for Bucky and his so called "betrayal" at the hands of the Dora Milaje, yet the same consideration is lacking when it comes to the Dora who where actually betrayed by Bucky.
These Black women warriors took him in, healed him, restored him, gave him a gift of a new prosthetic as a symbol not only of friendship but of a new beginning for him and what does he do?
He frees from prison the man who murdered their former leader without so much as a fine "How do you do?" heads up as to what he was doing and why, yeah the prosthetic is an extension of Bucky but it's also a weapon and a failsafe imbedded into its framework was the right call
Bucky didn't deserve to know about the failsafe, that's what makes it a failsafe, it was a simple, smart precautionary measure which had nothing to do with a breach of trust
As far as the ableist elephant in the room is concerned, I don't ever want to speak over or speak for other disabled people but I personally didn't see anything ableist in Ayo deactivating Bucky's arm..
The ableism I did see however came in the form of everyone yucking it up in the most predictable and tired of ways on social media the following day.
There are ways to talk about how cool, funny, absurd you found the scene without punching down and resorting to ableist memes and jokes, the bar for not being trash is such a low hurdle to clear and yet people routinely fall short.
One more point I want to touch on that's pretty obvious to everyone except some White people disabled and non disabled alike, Bucky for whatever reason is a surrogate for y'all..
And as such, Ayo deactivating Bucky's arm is either consciously or unconsciously perceived as a violation of whiteness, this is something y'all need to sit with and interrogate
Why does the notion of Black women being cautious, defending themselves and holding a White man (albeit one who's an ally) accountable for his selfish, hurtful actions bristle you?
