1/4 So, I am looking through a school website. They are explaining their rationale for teaching literacy. They quote some famous EduTweeters- but do not actually reference the seriously amazing academics who spent their careers helping us understand how to teach these things.
2/4 These EduTweeters have written books. They have become famous. In the process, they seem to have forgotten their ethical and professional duty to reference the painstaking dedication and effort of others to unpick these understandings .
3/4 If we are going to use research, be evidence informed and make decisions based on the careful, systematic, cumulative effort of researchers and academics, the very least we can do is respect them by crediting them.
3/4 Both research and education are about the collective effort- we don’t need heroes - we need to recognise and appreciate the many.
If you are writing a book, please reference the ideas and work of others. It’s simple good manners and people will know how clever you are.
