I'm watching with horror and profound sadness at what @LaurentianU administration and @recteurulpres is doing to students and faculty today, along with along with what they've already done to those at @ThorneloeUni @UofSudbury and @HuntingtonUni, effectively destroying LU.
In many ways I feel oddly lucky, as not only have those of us at @ThorneloeUni been living on the bubble of folding for a couple of years now...
but I've already gone through my grieving process when I stopped applying for permanent jobs and accepted that I would never get anything more than sessional teaching here, although @AvenSarah is/was a tenured prof here.
I've spent the last 7 years building up a new career for myself outside academia proper, having come to the realisation that academia is fundamentally broken in so many ways.
Today's news highlights this very starkly. The dismantlement @LaurentianU was caused by and directed by banks and private interests and political ideologies and cronyism and vanity and downright incompetence, not the needs of society or the community.
And we've been lied to all along and are still being lied to by the LU president @recteurulpres who is not only a liar but also a coward.
I'm very angry. But today mostly I'm deeply sad for my colleagues and students who have had their lives so damaged by these cruel and unnecessary actions. If any one of you needs someone to talk to, do feel free to reach out to me.
