1. On April 12th 1962 , 59 years ago , Palestinian terrorists which infiltrated from the Sinai peninsula had opened fire on Israeli civilian vehicles south to Mitzpe Ramon.
At that time , the Palestinian terrorism was rampant , and the rules for civilian vehicles driving along or near the border, allowed to drive only in convoys or/and with IDF escort.
At that day Amnon Lifshiz (26) was stopped on the way back from Eilat by an acquaintance, so he followed the convoy that had already set off.
At 19:00 (7PM), Amnon, who was traveling alone, tried to catch up with the convoy.
South to Mitzpe Ramon a group of Palestinian terrorists opened fire towards his truck murdering Amnon immediately.
The terrorists took his ID, mutilated his body - and fled to Egypt.
His body was discovered after about half an hour by a passing IDF vehicle.
3. On April 12 2002 , 19 years ago, then Frida afternoon, a female Palestinian suicide bomber exploded at a bus stop on Jaffa Street in #Jerusalem, at the entrance to the Mahane Yehuda market, as the market was packed with Israelis and tourists
The attack occurred shortly after noon in front of a bus stop at the entrance to the market, as bus route number 6 was approaching from the Central Bus Station. Many passengers that were waiting at the station were hit, as well as passengers on the bus itself.
The the terrorist sought to enter the market, but decided not to do so due to the large number of police officers stationed there.
The force of the explosion was so strong that it destroyed the bus stop and the bus and caused windows to break in the near by buildings.
6 people were murdered in the attack, including two Chinese citizens , more then 100 were injured, many of them teenagers and tourists.
Suhila Hushi (47), was born in Tehran, Iran in 1955. She attended a Jewish school and a vocational high school.
From an early age, Suhila worked as an assistant in a Tehran dental clinic.
In 1979, after many hardships and harassment by the Khomeini regime, she had to flee Iran and decided to make alliyah to Israel with her husband Moshe.
Suhila was pregnant when they immigrated, and shortly after they settled in Jerusalem, their daughter Rebecca was born.
After Rebecca Lior, Ezekiel and Orit were born.
Suhila ran an exemplary home and cared for all the needs of the family, as well as when she was ill with cancer and had been in treatment for 3 years (and in an ongoing battle with side effects ever since).
Suhila finished her weekly pre Shabbat shopping at Mahane Yehuda Market and went to the near by bus stop , never knowing that she will never return home.
Nissan Cohen (57), son of Michal and David, was born in Afghanistan on May 21, 1944. The youngest in his family, he was the brother of Chaim, Bracha, Rivka and Frida. Nissan's family was one of the best known and richest among the Jewish community in Afghanistan.
After Nissan's grandfather and uncle were murdered by fanatical Muslims in Afghanistan during a pogrom in their hometown, the family left everything, fled Afghanistan and made alliyah to Israel in 1951.
After immigrating to Israel, Nissan and his family lived for a while in transit camps. From there they moved to Kfar Shalem in Tel Aviv. On a plot of land with a large orchard, the orchard served as a source of livelihood for a long time.
Nissan married Rivka in 1974. In the years 1977-1986, their six children were born: Michal, David, Sarah, Shlomo, Yosef and Racheli.
The young family continued to live in the Tel Aviv area, and Nissan worked as a gardener, until the opportunity arose for them to move to Jerusalem
Living in Jerusalem was his dream since he was a small child . Nissan longed to reach Jerusalem so much that when he did set foot on its land he knelt on the ground and kissed it.
According to his children, since that day, the Western Wall has become his only place of entertainment. In every spare hour he was there praying and speaking to different people .
On that fateful day , Friday April 12th 2002 , Nissan said that he’s going to the Kotel , as he always did he stopped at the Mahane Yehuda market to buy groceries for Shabbat. Never to return home.
Lin Chin Mai (34) and Chai Zin Chang (32) were Chinese tourists visiting Jerusalem with their families, both of their wives were wounded in the attack , but survived.
Rivka Fink (77) was born in Jerusalem in 1925 and worked as a nurse in Jerusalem’s hospitals all her life she married Dov, and the couple lived in Jerusalem where their 4 children were born.
Since her retirement, Rivka has been a volunteer at the Yad Sarah Association, which lends medical equipment to everyone in need.
She devotedly cared for her ailing husband, until his death in 2001.
She arrived at the market at noon that day with her son Aaron, but refused his offer to wait for her and drive her home and preferred for him “not to be delayed because of her”.
When she finished shopping, she was waiting for the bus to go home, never returning.
Yelena Konrav, was born in the Soviet Union on September 9, 1958. Grew up in the Caucasus.
From an early age she went to study economics at an university in Ukraine, and after graduation worked in her profession. In Ukraine Yelena married, and her daughter Daria was born.
In 2000, Daria made alliyah to Israel, as part of a program for students making alliyah before their parents.
It was Yelena who pushed her daughter to come to Israel and study in Jerusalem.
A year later, when Daria began studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Yelena and her father also immigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem, to help Daria in all her needs.
Hours before the attack, Yelena heard that her daughter's friend, Dima, a lone soldier in the country, was coming on vacation from the army, and went out to the market to buy groceries to prepare a festive meal for the family. She never returned.
