have discovered that there are MULTIPLE pet friendly apartment buildings on the ubc campus that cost about the same as vancouver’s absurd housing rates but are new builds and as i mentioned /actually on the point grey campus/; mfa options have suddenly shifted
still looking at the absurd distance ones like the one that’s held partly at shakespeare & co & has zadie smith on faculty, or the one i can split b/w la & santa barbara (not actually that ridiculous & currently my 1st choice as it focuses on community building & pedagogy), but
the thing is—& yes i’m about to sound like a bitch but—i used to think i’d never get in to an mfa or at least not a good one but in recent years several people i know who are, frankly, much worse writers than me have done just that so maybe i should believe in myself for once
and the other thing is that most of those ppl are doing those mfas for indiscernible reasons that i think might amount to “clout” and that is a BAD reason to do an mfa, i just want to teach writing to earnest undergrads who deserve the world or at least profs who give a shit okay
to come back to this thread tho just look at two of these housing options on what i genuinely think is the best campus in all of canada, and only a 90min ferry ride away from my family
point grey is outside of vancouver proper but bc it’s its own area it’s buil up its own little city hub vibe, and that road you can see running around the perimeter of the peninsula divide the campus from publicly accessible provincial parklands with a gorgeous (nude) beach
