Ok, I can't help but throw in my two cents on the anti-woke Twitter infighting over John McWhorter sharing that Cathy Young article that was critical of James Lindsay (god, typing that out really makes it feel like middle school lunch table-tier stuff). Here goes:
The argument against Cathy Young seems to be along the lines of "The most important battle we have to fight is against the woke. It's strategically bad to criticize those fighting against the same things we are, so she should STFU about James Lindsay and focus on woke crazies."
To me, this reasoning feels similar to the arguments leveled against liberals/leftists who dared to criticize the left when Trump was President. "Trump is the REAL threat here, so it's a strategic mistake to criticize your own side right now; we must focus on opposing Trump."
I think ALL these arguments are bad because imo, if you want your side to win, you SHOULD criticize its craziest members who may be using bad tactics or going too far. They make your side look bad, after all! Isn't it arguably strategically worse NOT to call out your allies' BS?
"Our cause is so important that we can't criticize the tactics/tone of our allies" is just a bad argument, I'm sorry. It's also the kind of argument that's used to justify violent riots. No one should be above criticism for their behavior just because their cause is righteous.
