Watching, a bit on a DVR delay, @TheTalkCBS right now. I've listened to @sherylunderwood's podcasts about the @MrsSOsbourne situation. This is a very interesting time & so specific.
It's happening on #TheRealWorldHomecoming special, too, with @kevin_powell & Becky.

Becky from Real World and Sharon from #TheTalk are practically identical in their approach to not recognizing their own white fragility nor how their privilege blinds them to the reality of a Black person's experience in the world, namely the U.S.
It's tragic for grown-ass women.

And watching #TheTalk, let's think about the powerful optics of @DrGrantjr sitting in the same chair Sharon did, and talking about racism and white supremacy's subtle and violent push against people of color, especially women. That alone is worth your hour to watch the show today

And none of us are 100% woke or enlightened. But we learned racism from just being raised in the U.S. That means we can UNlearn it, and replace it with something better. But it ain't up to Black folks to teach us alabaster Americans what racism is. WE have to do our homework.

And if we have a Black friend who is willing to have conversations with us and help us, then thank your Black Jesus that you do. Never be the smartest person in the room. Do your own work, & when it shows, others will gravitate toward you to support, help, and be there.

Quick note about Becky from #TheRealWorldHomecoming , when she said she went to an African dance class (after bragging about living overseas and her family this and that) and “lost my skin,” I couldn’t cringe any harder than I did.
Now she’s woke cuz she dance w/ Black people?!

Kevin told her no one wanted to hear her go on about traveling because most folks aren’t rich or privileged. And that her dance story was the “but I have Black friends” excuse.
Her answer? “I’m just living my truth.”
Yes, Becky, you are. That’s why you got fragile & left the show

Sharon telling Sheryl not to cry and that she (Sharon) was the victim, is the same as Becky up and leaving the loft, saying none of the friendships were real because why? Both women are fragile as fuck when it comes to their whiteness. It’s classic embedded white supremacy.
