A thread 🧵on why the last year of #COVID19 should help us remain calm in the era of #CovidVaccine. 1
Don’t succumb to fear at every headline that you read. It’s important to understand that many of the articles about the pandemic were wrong. Scientific punditry is an exploding market. People will say anything to be part of it. And they did. 2
Recall, we were told by the flu was more dangerous; Trump just wanted to close borders; masks were useless; close the schools; keep groceries in the garage; and spray down everything. 3
We didn’t know this info was wrong until months later when research was completed, or we looked deeper into why rules were established (e.g. 6 feet; surface contact warnings; children as spreaders; and on and on). 4
In fact, many in the media, particularly on cable news, still ignore what we’ve learned because it breeds fear, and fear keeps you locked into their news channels. Or, the media has a political agenda, like we saw last year with the presidential election. 5
Never forget, national media and science experts laughed when the previous administration declared people would begin being vaccinated by the end of 2020 and all Americans would have access by the end of April 2021. Well, here we are. They were wrong. Again. 6
So, keep this in mind as you read one apocalyptic headline after another about how the #Covid19 vaccine doesn’t work, or a new variant has emerged that will kill us all. Like we learned about the pandemic, much of this information will be wrong. Headlines sell. Stay cool. End
