Woke up today feeling like the world is broken—perhaps irreparably. People literally rioting in the streets, breaking windows, tearing down fences & having mass protests because they are being asked to take health precautions to prevent our hospitals from being overwhelmed. 1/9

How did we get here? Supposedly many of the people out at Grace Life Church were not even from the church itself. For sure there was a convoy that travelled up from Calgary, presumably stopping for a kool-aid break in Red Deer on the way. 2/9

We see the extreme opportunism of populist politicians—federal, provincial and municipal, elected & candidates—jumping into the mix to publicize themselves and hear the adulation of people cheering their dangerous, ego-driven stupidity in a very Trump-like way, as they 3/9

manufacture situations in which they can appear to be victims. And people flock to this absolute garbage. Why? What is the appeal? The crowds of people at these things have a very similar look to them. It sickens me that some claim to have anything to do with being Christian, 4/9

when, in reality, most of them are white, racist, science-denying, conspiracy theorists & bullies who lack critical thinking skills. They appear to love having the attention focused on them, either from the reporters (as they shout ‘Fake News!!’, or filming themselves and 5/9

posting on social media. (Cognitive dissonance—they cry victim at media attention, yet seek it out). I feel like some of these people have never been noticed for anything positive before, and now, like people on reality TV, they see they can get attention by joining in and 6/9

being part of these protests, going to businesses that are violating health orders, confronting people in stores or wherever else and filming themselves. Maybe they see themselves as reality TV celebrities? Talentless & mediocre, but visible. 7/9

And the great irony of all of this is that these people elected and continue to support the very people who have so badly bungled everything that we are in the situation we are in now. It becomes harder & harder to see how any of this can end well. 8/9

I hope it has not gone too far to be able to fix this. I hope some of these people can somehow be brought to see reason. 9/9
