When world’s largest democracy, w/largest youth population, is being actively debased & in grave crisis - flaunting one’s status as “apolitical” isn’t a badge of honour. It’s disrespectful to minorities & most vulnerable who don’t have the privilege to be “apolitical”. https://twitter.com/beerbicepsguy/status/1381547501447094274
Holding elected leaders accountable isn’t complaining. Questioning ppl who use cover of “apolitical” to justify their silence on gross human rights violations can be a learning lesson. Speak to those most affected by the politics on ground and use your platform to amplify.
Also, let’s unpack “don’t complain”theory. As right holders, duty bearers (politicians in power)are accountable to us. So yes, Complain.Question.Dissent. That’s what makes for a good democracy. I hear this “don’t complain, you do the job instead”rhetoric in debates by political reps
These political party apologists make it sound like if you dare complain as a citizen - you’re lazy/ entitled and don’t know how to be part of the solution - actually NO.
We pay taxes, we elect you to do your job. Not shame us for daring to question your ineptitude, latency.
And if you can’t do your job as an elected rep; if you’d rather citizens do your job for you then resign.Step aside.
Politicians & political will are renewable resources. The climate crisis & pandemic call upon us all to be political, not popcorn eating passive bystanders.
