Peter Bonetti was born on the 27th of september 1941 and died on the 12th of April 2020 . He was a goalkeeper that played in the 1960s/1970s
He was nicknamed the cat for his great reflexes and graceful athleticism
He made his Chelsea debut in March 1960 vs Manchester city . Chelsea won the game 3-0 .
He won the Fa youth cup in 1960 . It was his last game at youth level
His mother send a letter to the club and he earned a trial. The rest is history
He played 729 times for Chelsea. Only Ron Harris (795) has played more
Peter Bonetti made a crucial last minute save vs Sunderland in the 1963 promotion season. One of the most important he ever made
Bonetti kept 208 clean sheets for Chelsea. Only Peter Cech has more
Peter only played 7 times for England . He only conceded 1 goal in the first 6 . Sadly his 7th and final England cap was a world cup quarter final vs West Germany where he made a mistake for West Germany First goal . England got knocked out and it was the end of Peter itl carrer
He was part of the 1966 England world cup winning squad however he never played because of Gordon Banks and didn't get a medal ( only players who played could get one). It was only 43 years later that he would receive his medal

Bonetti greatest game for Chelsea was the 1970 Fa Cup final replay . Despite suffering an injury early on he continued and produced many vital saves at crucial times . Chelsea won the trophy at the end
In 1971 he overcame a pneumonia just in time to play Real Madrid in the cup winners cup. Just like Leeds it will take 2 games to win the trophy with once again Bonetti making crucial saves . Big game player 🐈
He was runner up for player of the year in the 1969/1970 season
He was also the first player to win Chelsea player of the year award . He won it in 1967
Peter Bonetti was voted as best Chelsea keeper of the last century and was once voted as The greastest Chelsea player ever in a poll
Peter conceded one goal or less in two- thirds of his apperances for Chelsea
In 1975 he left Chelsea for a short time moving to St Louis Stars . He made 21 apperances for them and helped them to join the central division . He returned to Chelsea the next year where his experience proved to be decisive in help the young Chelsea team to gain promotion
In May 1979 after almost 20 years at the club . He played his final game . Chelsea drew 1-1 with Arsenal
After retirement he became a Goalkeeping coach for Chelsea Man city and England
Gloves or not . It was never a problem for Peter .
Peter Bonetti was married 2 times and had 5 childrens named Suzzane Kim Nicholas Liza and Scott
Bonetti played for the Chelsea old boys at age 68 and was still able to make some good saves .
He was the Cat who broke the mould, defied the odds, drew the gasps, earned the cheers and got the cream. All in the front of an adoring Stamford Bridge.”

He always had a close relationship with the fans
My relationship with the fans was special and i certainly noticed it when they were chanting my name I'll never forget the send off they gave me in my last match against Arsenal and of course i went over to the Shed to give a wave
During his later years he was a matchday host in the hospitality area of the stadium
Peter is one of the greatest to ever wear the Chelsea shirt and his contribution to the club has been immense. He shall never be forgotten . RIP Peter â€đŸ™
