Coursera’s mission is to provide universal access to world-class learning so that anyone, anywhere has the power to transform their life through learning.
I believe $COUR has a huge opportunity to disrupt the large and inefficient market of traditional education.

I believe $COUR has a huge opportunity to disrupt the large and inefficient market of traditional education.
THREAD

$COUR currently has 77 million registered learners spread across over 6,000 businesses, campuses, and governments, as well as over 200 universities and industry partners.
COVID changed a lot for the negative, it also shed light on the activities society does inefficiently (drive to office or classroom). $COUR is the answer to online, and blended learning of the future. On your time, at a fraction of the cost.
S-1 “Our data-driven technology platform enables educators to efficiently produce, teach, and scale content and credentials, from individual courses to professional certificates to diploma-bearing degrees.”
Having courses online gives $COUR the ability to be utilized by an infinite number of students at any time. Compared to the old model of gathering in a room at a specific time, it’s almost incomparable how scalable $COUR is.
$COUR also sells its content directly to institutions, employers, colleges, universities, and governments. These programs help current employees modernize their skills, and colleges to offer university-branded online courses.
These courses are offered as a low-cost alternative for students faced with financial challenges with the cost of higher education. Students who choose to take the classes will have a bend of in person, and online at a lower total cost.
The current financial burden of college on Americans is enormous. Families spend an average of $529B annually on tuition. Much of it adding to the current student loan debt of $1.71 trillion.
It doesn't take a genius to see the above numbers represent an educational crisis. We are not doing our youth justice by giving them subpar degrees that put them in financial prison until they are well into their 30s.
Technology has also made our economy much more dynamic. As businesses continue to evolve with the times, having current competence in an in-demand field has never been more paramount.
S-1 “According to HolonIQ Smart Estimates, the current higher education market is currently sized at $2.2 trillion, and growing. The global online degree market was $36B in 2019 expected to be $74B in 2025.” Can you say huge TAM?!
Comments on their growth from S-1, “We believe that we have a large under penetrated addressable opportunity ahead of us to enable the digital transformation of higher education and provide lifelong adult learning at scale.”
The International Labor Organization estimated the workforce will grow by 230 million people by 2030.
This is at a time when many jobs are at risk of disparaging to automation and technology. $COUR is the company that will offer inexpensive certificates to keep these people modernized, and employed.
“According to the World Economic Forum, 95% of U.S. employers plan to retrain existing employees in response to shifting skills needs.” - These people aren't going back to college folks, they'll take a class on $COUR
“Of the global working-age population of more than 5 billion people, approximately 83% have had no post-secondary education, according to data from the Wittenstein Center Human Capital Explorer.”
So, we have inefficient and overpriced high education, Enterprises looking to retrain employees to better their company and cut down on hiring costs, as well at Gov. agencies looking to re-train. This is essentially $COUR opportunity.
$COUR has made their courses “stackable,” meaning a lower level course can count as credit to a higher level degree. This can help incentivize people to reacher for a bigger goal after taking a “refresher” course for work.
S-1, “For example, a University of Illinois digital marketing course can count as credit towards a Digital Marketing Specialization, which could count towards a two-year MBA, all earned on Coursera.”
Having an ecosystem that covers those looking to maintain a job, get a raise, start a new career, or seek a high-level degree, at a fraction of the cost of traditional universities, is an extremely valuable service $COUR is providing.
Their full catalog includes: 1,000+ guided projects. 4,600+ courses. 500+ specialization. 40+ certificates. 25+ professional certificates. 15+ MasterTrack certificates. 25+ Degrees: bachelor and master.
Current registered learners by country: USA = 15M, India = 10.6M, Mexico = 4.1M, Brazil = 3.2M, China= 3.1M. Over 80% of registered learners are outside the U.S. 51% of $COUR rev in 2020 came from outside the U.S.
There are currently 486 million people between the ages of 15 and 24 in the top five countries listed above. Not including older people who could possible use $COUR to modernize their abilities to stay competitive in the job market.
Here is a current visualization of $COUR flywheel from their S-1
I am currently taking the $GOOG data analytics class to learn more about big data, coding, and to advance my abilities in Excel. So far I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.
The content is very practical. I learn at my own pace, on my own time, and it costs me $39 a month..
I built a DCF of $COUR with rev. Growth at 50% in 2022, tapering to 44% in 2023, then into the mid 30s and high 20s until 2029. I consider this to be “consensus growth” and somewhat conservative given the market size.
My model has them profitable by 2024 with a current fair value per share of $43 at an 8% discount rate. This is a PROJECTION that I made with MY estimates. Take this with a grain of salt.
I believe $COUR has huge potential to revolutionize the way people learn. No longer will you be in school for 4 years never to learn again. As technology infiltrates our world, new knowledge should infiltrate your mind.
Constant upgrades and lifelong learning will become the norm. Our society will benefit from it, and $COUR will be providing a valuable service to all those who participate, at a fair price.
Okay, that's the thread.
Hey @fatbabyfunds I remember chatting with you about "educational disruption" and $CHGG not being enough. What do you think about $COUR?
