#Vegan #SocialJustice #health #Autism
I am a vegan. Why? 1) I used to have really bad #acidreflux. So bad, I thought I was having a heart attack. I stopped dairy, and for the most part, my heart burn is nonexistent.
2) As an #autistic person I bond very closely with #animals. I know they are intelligent, have feelings, are loyal ... so why do I eat one animal and not another? I know they suffer. I don't want to add to suffering in the world. There is more than enough.
3) Anyone who is #marginalized needs to really spend time thinking about #privilege. If you are a group that has its rights taken away; who feels voiceless, then try to think about the animals.
The reality: cows are artificially inseminated and kept pregnant for years. Their babies are taken from them and turned into meat. Animals made into meat are put into cramped, hot trucks. They are terrified. And then they arrive to be killed. They hear screams. They are terrified
People who can treat animals as food and clothing have privilege. Period. We force our wills and put our needs ahead of others. Sound familiar? If you say you fight injustice, take a hard look at what that actually means.
And this is not something I will fight you about. Period. I have spent DECADES of my life, truly thinking and agonizing about this. Your "I need milk to survive" or "I like the taste of cheese" carries ZERO weight. ZERO.
