What happens if Prop B passes? ECHO looked at the data to discern the impact of criminalizing homelessness on the people currently living unhoused in our community.
THREAD

Meet Anthony, a U.S. Army veteran who’s been living unsheltered off and on since his return from service. Anthony's significant trauma makes it difficult for him to maintain a stable income and stable housing.
Due to mobility issues, Anthony is unable to relocate his possessions quickly and is given a citation under Prop B's new laws. He can’t afford the $200 ticket or transportation to court, so a warrant is issued for Anthony’s arrest.
Anthony is a fictional persona, but his situation is very real. People like Anthony will encounter more barriers to housing if our community recriminalizes homelessness. Vote NO On Prop B.

Each day this week we'll be highlighting a new persona in this thread based on data and information we know about our unhoused neighbors in Austin. Download and share copies of these personas, social media posts, flyers, and more on our Advocacy Hub: https://www.austinecho.org/advocacy/
Meet Dawn. She’s been living unsheltered for two months after fleeing a violent relationship and can’t find a job because she can’t take regular showers or meet other hygiene expectations.
She moves into a hidden location to avoid a citation and is hospitalized with a blood infection after she’s hurt and doesn’t have basic first aid supplies.
Dawn is a fictional persona, but her situation is very real. People like Dawn will be forced into the woods and other unsafe locations because there are no shelter or housing options. Vote NO on Prop B.
