If we were really in a pandemic, do you think we would need to be reminded of it every time we turn on the TV? When this first started, I was terrified. I was a CNN watcher and watched the daily Cuomo briefings. I work at a major medical facility and we prepped and set up
field hospitals and clinics around town to prepare for our surge of COVID patients. It was terrifying. We waited and waited and waited for our "surge" to come. It never did. We had about 80 patients in the hospital system wide in the Spring of 2020.
That's spread out over 3 hospitals which is far from overrun. The field hospitals and clinics came down unused. My fear dissipated into questioning why we weren't just protecting the vulnerable. We knew who they were at that point. As the time drug on, those hospitalizations
Dropped to a low in late Oct/early Nov. Started to increase again at that time. We reached a max total hospitalized of ~150 pts. Still far from overrun & not much different from every winter flu season except this time, most of the respiratory viral illnesses were from COVID
Have we had deaths? Sadly, yes (about ~250 system wide), but those have also decreased over time as we learned how to treat the virus. Unfortunately, it was trial and error in the beginning.
But we've never been overrun. That was the point in the beginning right? I expected people to be dropping dead in the streets due to the terrifying panic the media pushed on us early on. Obviously that didn't happen yet they continue to push the major panic porn. Why?
Why is there no message of hope? The vaccines are here. They seem to work well. They should be offered to those at high risk and anyone else that wants one (however I don't agree with giving this to low risk people or kids but that's another story). We need some HOPE!
Hope that this summer will be normal. It should be normal. I'm tired. Tired of the fear porn. @CNN @MSNBC @CBSNews I think you might find a larger audience if you start finding hopeful physicians to interview.
We have to bring the fearful around, or we will never get back to normal no matter what the virus does and you will own that part of history for maintaining that fear. Help us get back to normal. #NoNewNormal
