little mix, mistreatments and consequences on their career: an informative thread
before we start i just wanna remind you that all the artists that will be mentioned/implied aren’t to blame, they were just active at the same period as little mix and were linked most of the time. in no case i tend to diminish what they went thru
as introduction little mix is a british gg composed of four members until dec 14th 2020 when jesy left for mh issues. over they years they released six studios albums and got ww recognition with hits such as black magic, shout out to my ex or woman like me ft nicki minaj
despite breaking records, being the fifth best selling gg in history and thriving since 2011, it’s still surprising that many don’t know who little mix is (mostly the us). it’s understandable: they went thru hardships from the moment they signed under s*co and c*lumbia records
little mix joined s*co after winning x factor as the first gg to ever win the show. this early achievement was a sign for their label to think the best strategy to promote them better outside of the uk, cause they were doing good in their country
it was said that little mix would crack the us easily cause they had the full package, also their first album charted well. let’s not forget that they were under the same label as one direction who was thriving for a year already, majorly promoting in the us
in jan 2013 little mix signed with c*lumbia records in order to crack the us. sounded like a good idea but not even weeks after lm’s announcement, another gg joined s*co. that was the beginning of a conflict that would impact little mix’s career in the us
it’s great for labels to give opportunities to artists but the problem was that little mix was a one year old gg with bare promo in the us. how did s*co think that creating another gg at the same period was a good idea? thank god both groups were fine with each other
before dropping their second album they worked on a full project for the label but they didn’t like it at all and asked them to start it all over. imagine how stressful it might have been for them (jade revealed it only in 2021)
after struggling to get an opportunity in the us, little mix finally got chosen to open demi’s tour in 2014. it was such a success that they announced a leg tour on their own...but it didn’t last long: the tour got cancelled because the girls had to work on their next album
days before the release of their fifth album lm5 (long awaited album after the success of the previous one) they split from s*co in bad terms. when the album dropped the promo was a whole mess: this era is said to be their worst in terms of promo
ofc they didn’t give in and finally opened up about it during interviews. their us label clapped back and removed progressively their music in stores. even cr’s ceo rarely acknowledges little mix achievements. fans, medias and the girls families called this attitude out
days ago JUSTICE FOR 1D AND LITTLE MIX, JUSTICE FOR FIFTH HARMONY, JUSTICE FOR CHER LLOYD were trending due to revealed mistreatments done by s*co to their artists. before that rebecca ferguson spoke about it too but went unnoticed
on their last album they dropped 'not a pop song' in which they addressed how they’re perceived by this industry and how they former label wanted them to be in order to succeed. "i don’t do what simon says" is the best words play to call s*co out
there are many threads, yt videos detailing their mistreatments, interviews where little mix talked about it, but we’re sure that cause of their contracts they can’t fully express how they feel
little mix is not the average group that works as a puppet to please people. they have a say in their artistry, the rest belongs to their label and management. they’re grateful for the support they have despite not being promoted enough despite providing good results
~end of the thread~ finally you cannot appreciate their music or whatever you want, but the minimum is to respect them and what they went thru. every artist/human being deserves respect
