Why I left the SNP & the indy movement – a thread
For me indy was supposed to be about a fairer and more accountable/transparent government which values/champions local democracy, and I don't see that happening with the SNP.

And I don't buy the argument that once independent we can sort out the issues within the party - it has a whiff of 'come the revolution'.
Despite my misgivings about independence, I still respect those that campaign for it, as there are valid reasons for leaving the UK, just as there are valid reasons (more so imo) for staying in the UK.
It'd be good for Scottish politics if there was a clarity act, so we can have as clear an indication as possible what iScotland would mean for communities & citizens. Eg. duration of austerity measures until our economy recovered from scexit, EU membership, trident removal, etc.
The SNP have had 14 years to address No voters' concerns, but have failed to do so: after we lost the vote in 2014, I felt it was an opportunity for the SNP to show what can be achieved thru devolution as a foretaste for soft No voters of what might be possible in an iScotland
But none of that happened, there's been no local empowerment of communities. Instead the powers, resources & autonomy of local authorities have been continuously eroded and centralised to Holyrood.
Then there are the issues with children accessing mental health services, child poverty, falling life expectancy, drug deaths, poor educational attainment, NHS waiting lists, homelessness, stagnant economic performance etc.
Plus all the scandals: Mackay, Ferrier, Ewing (Fergus), missing indy funds, Sturgeon & Salmond, Murrell, Freeman Yet all were allowed to continue to draw wages on the public purse. Zero accountability & transparency.
And I realise the argument against is that the indy movement is larger than the SNP. Except the SNP is the only party with the political capital to achieve independence. They know it, & that's why they take their vote for granted and continue to govern with arrogance & corruption
