This April is Autism Acceptance Month (sometimes referred to as Awareness Month). To bring attention to this, we have a quote from Sonny Bailey, one of our young members, about why this month is so important to them.👇
"Perhaps the most important point I can give, is simply to listen. This Autism Acceptance Month, plenty of groups have spoken over us, hijacked voices, or performed ableist actions. This is exhausting. 1/2
But it is also important to keep our optimism going. The progress we have made over the years has been substantial but now we must do more and we cannot afford to give up". 2/2
We also want to elevate some organisations that autistic members of Scottish Young Labour have found beneficial. These included the #ActuallyAutistic hashtag on Twitter, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network and the Scottish Women’s Autism Network.
