if it was just "a few bad apples", you'd expect that every time a story breaks about police violence, we'd be deluged by counter-anecdotes where everyone who has had their life changed for the better by interacting with the police comes forward to challenge the narrative

almost seems like even people who defend the existence of policing basically grant the premise that there are more bad incidents than good incidents at this point
I feel like I only hear people defend the police in conceptual abstractions
like when they say "well, who will you call if you're ever sexually assaulted then????", and not "when I was sexually assaulted the police caught the person and were kind and helpful and supported me"

I have been robbed three times and the police were, at best, politely useless
nothing was ever recovered, it was clear from minute one that I was barely a priority, we all sort of acknowledged like "this is a formality and we all know it will go nowhere"

it just feels increasingly surreal that people advocating for police abolition have a massive, ever-growing list of SPECIFIC INCIDENTS to point to in like every precinct across the US, and yet we almost never see police defenders present specifics - even anecdotal! - at all
obviously this is not like. a unique and novel realization. it's just the current thought spiraling in my brain that i can't get past
"Two studies have found that at least 40 percent of police officer families experience domestic violence, in contrast to 10 percent of families in the general population."

also, my point was the lack of SPECIFIC incidents where someone can say "here is an example of a way my life was improved by the intervention of law enforcement"
just saying "here is an example of a type of crime" is not a counterargument

cannot believe a man read this thread and then literally came into my mentions to make this exact argument https://twitter.com/clairewillett/status/1381510430464430080?s=20
