That portrait of an angry brahmin clad in white vesture adorning a shikha & attacking buddha is Neo Buddhist socio-political propaganda. Had Hindu brahmins really attacked Buddha, he would never have survived the light of the day for his blatant censure of Hindu religious system

In one of his "sermons", the Buddha compares Hindu Brahmins to dogs and eventually comes to the conclusion that Dogs are better than Brahmins

Pali literature is full of such polemics. The image of angry Brahmins attacking a calm Buddha is just a myth

And what did Brahmins do in return? Many of them joined the sect of Buddha. Majority of his earliest followers were Brahmins like Maudgalyayana & Śāriputra. Many of them revered Buddha as one of Avataras" of Vishnu & this belief eventually made its presence in some late Puranas

This has been the story all along. Unconditional tolerance of the majority reciprocated with separatism and polemics of newly formed sects who trained their guns on Vedas and Brahmins without slightest provocation from anywhere
