we’ve interviews bunches of loc and QA people in our documentaries which hope to explain how video games are made by talking to the people who made them.
I get that these areas are sometimes outsourced and may be downstream from design - but it seems wildly inaccurate to say that they are not part of dev. I don’t work in dev myself - but many of the studios we’ve visited have had loc and QA plugged into ongoing development.
Like I said I’m no expert, I’m just an observer, but our upcoming documentary on Arkane’s Prey has an entire section about how the QA department operates and how they are essential to the design of that game. Like, think about that game. Obviously they are.
my major gripe is with artists. They just draw pretty pictures. Has nothing to do with how the game plays. games don’t really need art. Pro Quake 3 players play with the textures and lighting turned off anyway
sorry I gave an “insight” on dev I try not to cos I’m not a developer and nothing irritates me more than people who aren’t a thing talking about how that thing works. I used to work in web/graphic design and still have client review shellshock. It’s why Noclip is 99% interviews.
even better - vaccine sick tweeting. I won’t remember any of this. https://twitter.com/davidjhandley82/status/1381487864375091206
