so i was bored and someone i follow on tiktok went live and like, she's clearly asian, specifically korean and seeing her comment section i realise once again how far people who w asian fetishization? i was lazy to capture all comments but they are just—
i'm white? and i don't intend to talk over asians but using korean honorifics with any asian you see while speaking english is just cringy, one thing is appreciating a culture and a totally different one is appropriating it, plus i saw people being low-key racist, wtf honestly.
i love learning languages and it's super nice seeing others put an effort into it but some things just seem like mocking it and are just straight up disrespectful, once again i am talking from what i've seen actual asians say and my own pov, everyone's experience is different.
also, if you're going to greet others in korean or something, you can at least use 한글, as far as ik, romanisations are not always understandable, like, why saying annyeonghaseyo nae ireumeun camilaieyo ??? plus some people were making her being korean her whole personality.
i am privileged to some extent for the mere fact of having a paler skin and western features and i know i will never experience the racism poc go through but seeing that kind of comments is just really a lot.
plus she low-key looked kinda uncomfortable? i'm really sorry in behalf of them, i wanted to send you a dm instead of making this thread but i put my age wrong on tiktok and i can't use them and you have your twt dms closed so,, @eunchaejabchae.
