If anyone on my TL is going to a protest and is wondering what may be good to bring, here’s what I used to bring
- helmet + goggles (plus extras if possible)
- extra masks
- water bottles + granola bars

People get hungry, thirsty, etc, and while organizers are sometimes able to provide water and other supplies it may be helpful if you can safely bring your own

Keep in mind you’ll likely be out there for hours. Don’t carry more than you can handle. I’m not an expert on helmets but I’ve heard that hard hats are far better than anything like bike helmets, though something is better than nothing

Also check if your goggles have holes. Goggles w holes are better than no goggles at all, but note that mace can still sleep through the holes. This happened to me, but w/o them I would’ve been MUCH worse off

If you get maced it’s important not to panic. Make SURE you know where medics are beforehand, and head to them. They will know what to do. If you see someone who’s been maced and struggling to find the medics, offer to guide them. They probably can’t see

Also please PLEASE ask for help if you need it. Your fellow protesters will keep you as safe as they can

As a final note, I want to remind any white protesters that our main job is to protect POC and mainly Black people. Put yourself between them and c*ps if you’re able, and don’t try and break shit as you’re only putting Black folks in danger
