We don't simply read the Bible, the Bible reads us. Scripture examines us and penetrates beneath the well-polished surfaces of our hearts, seeing what no one but God can see. Scripture does this, not to condemn us, but to heal us, not to shame us but to restore us.

For at the same moment it lays bare the wounds that infect the whole of our existence it points us towards and unites us to the Great Physician whose words and wounds alone can heal and liberate us through the power of the Spirit.

Evening Prayer: Search me O God, see if there is any hurtful way in me, and then lead me today in paths everlasting. Amen.
