Before I go to sleep I wanted to say I did a rewatch of #WW84 and still love the movie.
To be fair the Mall scene is growing on me. I have been revisiting some movies from the 80's and the aesthetic is pretty on point. I missed a little more of the iconic music from that decade to set the tone but choices are choices.
I was thinking about the monkeys paw idea and that's honestly the major point of the narrative. When Diana says the world was a "beautiful place as it was" it's not because she agrees with problems like racism, violence, etc. It's because you can't change things using a trick.
Tricks are exactly the modus operandi of the status quo, the status quo has cheated for centuries and look at the mess we are, the awful things validated by this horrifying system. There must be another way, a better way. That's the thing.
Heroes can't act like the villains. There must be a difference in how they operate, because in the end, what makes someone good or bad are exactly their acts. Not their intentions, not their excuses. Acts, only. Because actions affect the world, not empty ideals/symbols.
I am still thinking about some stuff but honestly that's good because the movie keeps you thinking.
Diana was taking people's guns at the white house scene and fighting them but at the moment she discovers Barbara may have her own powers, she starts to prevent Minerva to harm them
In the third act, Diana with her powers restored, chooses to get the Golden Eagle Armor. She knows Cheetah has the same power she has. She fears them! These powers are the only thing meaningful she had for decades. She lost everything else. She needs an advantage to beat them.
I can only think of how Diana sees herself here. She knows her heart sets the direction of these powers but this time, after her lack of altruistic actions, she is doubting herself. She fears herself for a moment. And this clarity is exactly what brings her back to
The hero we know. Diana was selfish af in this movie and she isn't proud of this. But she accepts her flaws and recognizes that not all the bad acts come from bad people. The world isn't white and black only.
Justice is gray 😝
That's the reason she can't open her heart at present times. She is Wonder Woman because she knows she can't live a normal life as a mortal, doesn't matter if she dreams of it. We are our actions and each one of them brings consequences. We like it or not.
Yup I am a sucker for flawed heroes trying to overcome their struggles. That's relatable and can really inspire us.
