oof, i’ve definitely been guilty of this

except i don’t reply to people, i just get hurt internally and think too much about what they said https://twitter.com/fembojj/status/1381333875893354496
i guess i’m not talking about willfully misinterpreting someone else’s tweets but something else - sometimes people say something without realizing the gravity of what they just said.
even if i understand that they’re tweeting something off-the-cuff and are just wrapped up in their emotions at the moment and the specificity of their situation, man -

i’ve just heard some hurtful things
and it’s like i don’t know what to do about it? what i’ve done is not take people very seriously on twitter at all, and decided that if i ever have an audience i’m gonna tweet way less but also be easier on myself

since i’m prone to messing up too, ofc
i’ve messaged people a few times, just telling them why what they said what hurtful but also mentioning that they don’t have to change anything, this is just another perspective

but yeah i think ppl are sometimes insensitive but also this format is challenging
often you just have to understand that you’re hurt not because you’re sensitive (sometimes true) but because you know the context and subject someone else is talking about more deeply

like, you have more knowledge. that person doesn’t realize, fully, what they’re saying
we’re taught that if you have certain beliefs, practices, and “basic” knowledge you are a “good” or “bad” person (politically)

like the possession of that knowledge directly says that about you
there’s not as much room for understanding people’s intentions and shortcomings, and also just that... people can say things that are messed up under further inspection but it’s perfectly normal for them not to see that in the moment, or ever if no one explains it
just thoughts bro
