🧵Spent the whole day on the border in Calexico, CA doing research on the Holtville crash that killed 13. Found the part of the wall they cut. I have been waiting for @USBPChiefELC to release the video footage he promised of the 2 cars that drove through on March 2, 2021. 1)
2) Seems @USBPChiefELC is refusing to release it and now I know why. As I mentioned before, this area of the border is fairly flat desert. There are Border Patrol cameras on tall poles that are monitored 24/7. These cameras can see everything.
3) But @USBPChiefELC will not release footage or let press see the actual area that was cut. This of course made me curious. The cut was made just 300 feet west of Gordon’s Well which is the only way north they could have traveled. It took awhile bc survivors said
4) one of the trucks got stuck in the soft sand and the weight. They jumped out and then it got out and they jumped in again. This car mat was probably from one of the cars.
5) One of the reasons why @USBPChiefELC doesn’t want to share the video with time stamps is because they are not patrolling the area. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes before anyone came to see who we were. This was mostly our view today:
6) @USBPChiefELC is so poorly guarding the border, they make steps out of cheap twine. Apparently billions of dollars in design is easily outdone by $5 of twine.
7) The most interesting part is that there are 2 cameras directly north of the hole. I mean within 200-250 yards. There’s no excuse for this breach. Is @USBPChiefELC leaving this area open on purpose? Ignoring the cameras? The sensors? If so, why? How is it that someone was able
8) to cut this much if the fence, get one car stuck, unload all the people, pull two cars through, load the one back up, drive 300 ft East to Gordon’s Well and then drive north right in front of two cameras? How? Also it’s important to note that the drive from the hole to where
9) the one car caught fire was approximately 17 minutes. From the fire to the crash was an additional 13 minutes. So from the hole in the wall to the crash was 30 minutes. Just want to document that for reporters. I’m going to try and put a video on here.Might have to be in parts
10)
11) Ah it all made it on. Yeah. So thank you to my driver @el_brolo. I always want to try and humanize this for you all. We found this right in the middle of the border road on the north side.
12) Thing about this is to think about the person who wore it. Probably a man. That’s what the owner went through just to get to the wall. Look at how that toe is pulled from the sole. That’s painful just to witness. I hope this man is safe.
13) oh yeah, this is Gordon’s Well looking south to the wall. The hole was cut just 300 yards to the west, to the right in this pic.
14) Something like this should be investigated to see if there was a bribe to let them through or if, like the locals are saying, they were let through and followed by undercover Border Patrol agents. This would also explain why the Border Patrol’s secret and illegal Critical
15) Incident Investigative Team (CIIT) was on the site of the crash with an hour. If Border Patrol wasn’t involved, why are they there videoing everything?
16) One more thing: the car that crashed had to go through one stop sign after leaving the other car on fire. So, either he ran that 1st stop sign too but got lucky, or he stopped but didn’t stop at the second one. I don’t think he stopped at either bc I think they knew Border
17) Patrol undercovers where on them. You can see about a quarter of a mile behind you easily, and like I said, some have even stated that they heard agents following the car over the radio. An investigation should pull the dispatch records and the private cell phones of all
18) working that night as Border Patrol agents always go to their cell phones when they are breaking the law and shit goes sideways.
