my thoughts on what tubbo said as someone who is in multiple marginalized groups (thread)
i think a lot of ccs have a huge misunderstanding when it comes to being called out and being held accountable. "cancel culture" isn't real, shitty ppl almost never face adequate consequences no matter how badly they deserve to be deplatformed.
what IS real are the minorities/marginalized ppl who ask for apologies. you can't brush away someone's ignorant past as a "slight mistake." if a non black cc has said the n word on the internet, you can't just say "the past is the past" and move on.
marginalized ppl are NOT a stepping stool for your self growth. if you were racist, homophobic, islamophobic, or misogynistic you are not normal and your shitty past isn't something you can say "everyone has made mistakes" about.
there will always be toxic ppl (who weren't affected) on the internet who will weaponize someone's shitty past to take them down because they dislike them, and obviously speak over those who were affected. but to dismiss EVERYONE asking you to apologize isn't the way to go.
the intent of the person who found the old tweets will never outweight the impact of said tweets. a cis person finding old tweets to try to cancel a youtuber will never be worse than the transphobia in said tweets. focusing on the intent takes away from the ppl who were hurt +
and moves the conversation away from those affected and towards the discussion of cancel culture.

last point. if you have a shitty past and only try to hide it while never showing your growth, don't be mad when ppl are angry. you once chose to be ignorant publicly, but haven't +
chosen to publicly and actively work against said ignorance.
