Reforming social safety nets, a 🧵...

I'd make housing, healthcare, basic income, SNAP all universal w/ automatic registration.

It'd be opt-out while keeping them accessible for potential later use.

Remove red tape that withholds aid & eliminate wasteful spending. 1/7
Universal housing...

• approve mortgage loans and renter applications, no more denying people for stupid reasons

• revamp public housing to actual livable conditions, use hemp concrete and other environmentally friendly resources that are sturdy

End #homelessness 2/7
Universal healthcare...

• cheaper to sustain than not insuring people
• human beings deserve to be cared for
• stop exploiting illness for profit

This list could go on and on quite frankly.
#MedicareForAll 3/7
Universal Basic Income...

• robots cost less, are safer and more efficient. More companies are moving towards automation whether we like it or not
• pays people to do any kind of work
• lifts millions out of poverty

#UniversalBasicIncome 4/7
Universal SNAP... (Increase the amount)

• easily expandable as a federal program
• helps prevent food insecurity/hunger
• no one should go hungry in the wealthiest country in the world

#foodsecurity 5/7
It costs more to fund poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and uninsured/underinsured medical debt than it does to end it all.

Universality removes barriers that allow for people to fall through the cracks & reduces wasteful spending caused by bureaucratic red tape. 6/7
We have the resources to do all of this, and there's no legitimate or reasonable excuse for us to not do it.

Plus, it's the right thing to do.

**None of this would take away from SSDI or other programs. Those needing reforming of their own, but should still exist.

7/7 End 🧵
