Not just annoying, but absolutely fucking disgusting. Made a website even less accessible than it already was (government deadline for public agencies being WCAG 2.1 AA compliant was September 23rd, 2020) as a sign of "respect" for a dead rich man, with no way to disable it. https://twitter.com/nationalrailenq/status/1381138185909063681
As someone that actually has to sit and spend hours testing every design aspect of a website and then trying to make sure everything complies with the accessibility guidelines, this is an absolute kick in the teeth and fucking disgusting from a public agency
Time for a bit of naming and shaming. From the list of all the train operating companies, here's a list of those that have messed with their websites:

@AvantiWestCoast have greyscaled everything except the header. The contrast of the footer links are a particular worry.
@CrossCountryUK have greyscaled the entire website, but provided a "toggle greyscale" button.

@LNER have greyscaled all images, leaving any plain text alone. This is better, but still shouldn't have been done in the first place, as images can serve as important context clues.
@Northern have greyscaled the entire page, except the notice banners at the top. Ironically the banner that announce the death isn't greyscale itself.

@tfwrail have greyscaled most context, leaving the notice at the top, the language switch, and accented red buttons alone.
And now a reminder that @networkrail and @nationalrailenq have greyscaled their entire websites (with the Enquires website not being accessible before this anyway), with no option to switch this off.
Not only is this completely inaccessible, but also the whole concept of mourning by making every website grey is beyond me. Especially in the railway, which serves the public with a service in return for our tax money. This is not the place for virtue signalling about death
Here's the completely stupid answer that @nationalrailenq deleted by the way, in case anyone hasn't seen it. https://twitter.com/HyperInertia/status/1381339004705124352
Appears I missed out @ArrivaGroup Rail London, who have also greyscaled their entire website completely with no setting to disable this.
@TfL Are you ok with your London Overground operator completely disregarding web accessibility standards in order to virtue signal?
You can follow @DerpyScripts.
