i so wish i had done this when we got my sons diagnosis https://twitter.com/shannonrosa/status/1381281071573004296
we are “doer” people.we listened to my sons developmental pediatrician who recommended an aba program. i restructured my professional life to make that happen no questions asked

shortly thereafter i started LISTENING to autistic people about what aba is/does and i was horrified.
so then began the process of untangling aba from my sons therapy regime all while feeling a horrible sense of guilt over the harm i may have caused when i was just trying to do the right thing.

i failed. but I suppose all you can do is acknowledge harm, make changes…
and then work to make sure others have more info than what you had when you started.

there’s a moment between stimulus and response with a diagnosis. right now that moment for parents is filled with doctors and therapists.

it needs to be filled the voices of disabled adults.
i hate that i did research but just didn’t use the right sources.

wont happen again.
