To be clear, this is not necessarily a theory to which I subscribe. But I think posing things this way does a lot to illustrate an important point to the cis-het community:...+

...and that is that there’s a distinct separation between biologically derived “Sex” and gender identity.
I think existing science on Sex includes an inherent bias toward the model of “female” or “male.” This adherence to that binary makes data easier to collect and quantify...+

...but not necessarily more illustrative of the subtleties of gender identification.
I believe “Sex” is a biological construct, but beyond the visual test, there are hormonal elements we haven’t clearly defined which contribute to that assignment and further study is needed...+

...I believe “gender identity” is a social construct based on an illusory social binary, and that the general understanding of these distinctions is comparatively un-evolved. Further consideration is needed...+

...Ultimately, I think we tend to tie Sex, gender, and sexual preference all together under a single umbrella, and this is over simplistic. I believe they are connected, but still separate distinctions. And I think dialogue like this helps us to to understand it better...+

...But I also think that the most effective way to relay the differences in our experiences to one another is to begin with what we share in common. And I believe we’ve all fallen prey to a flawed idea of sex and gender being one and the same.
